A Study on Prevalence and Distribution of Congenitally Missing Third Molar

Abstract
|

|
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of congenital missing of third molars by means of the analysis of panoramic radiographs. The data of this study were complied from 103 patients of the Department of Dentistry of Konkuk University Chungju Hospital.
The results were as follows:
1. The prevalence of congenitally missing third molars was revealed to be 33.9%. In female, it¢¥s 36.8% and in male, 30.4%.
2. There was a higher distribution in maxilla (58.2%) than in mandible (41.8%). The difference of right and left third molar was not evident.
3. As to the number of congenitally missing third molars, the order was two, one, four, three teeth. In females, multiple missing was more prevalent than males.
